Adoptions Process

We do not adopt our animals out on a first come first serve basis. We try our best to match each dog to the most suitable situation. Often we get many applications for the same dogs. It is often a difficult choice because fortunate for us, there are many loving people who want to adopt these dogs. Since we are individuals who are working hard to give these dogs the chance they deserve, it is often not possible to get back to each applicant. We do update our webpage and the listings on Petfinders promptly to indicate any updates or changes:

On Hold: Means that we have received many applications to date and will not accept any additional applications at this time even though the animal has not yet been officially adopted. Once the existing applications have been reviewed and if for any reason we should need additional applications, the animals will be taken off hold. It can also mean that the animal is being treated for a medial condition and is not quite yet available. This would be indicated under the description

Adoption Pending: Since we do home checks for all of our dogs, this means the adoption is pending the home check. This often requires time scheduling between the potential new owner and us.

Adopted: Means the animal has been placed in a loving home and is no longer available. This will be posted for several days

A fenced yard must be in place prior to a dog being placed in a new home. This is very important for these dogs since they have been rescued as strays and will run. They do not fear the streets since this is were they had to live prior to being rescued. Also, an electric or invisible fence is not accepted by us.

While at Animals In Need, every animal receives the following:
  • Vaccinations
  • Worming
  • Spay or Neuter surgery for animals over three months of age
  • Treatment of any illness
  • Bath and flea dip
  • Heartworm test, heartworm treatment if necessary
