Adoption Guidelines
Adoption Process
Be advised that there are no onsite adoptions. Meet our dogs here
We do not adopt our animals out on a first-come first-serve basis. We try our best to match each dog to the most suitable situation. We often get many applications for the same dogs. It can be a difficult choice for us, but fortunately for us, there are many loving people who are willing to provide a forever home. Since we are individuals who are working hard to give these dogs the chance they deserve, it is often not possible to get back to each applicant. We do update our webpage, Facebook, and the listings on Petfinder promptly to indicate any updates or changes.
On Hold: This means that we have received many applications for that particular dog, and will not accept any additional applications, even though the animal has not yet been officially adopted. Once the existing applications have been reviewed, and if for any reason we should need additonal applications, the animals will be taken off hold. It can also mean the animal is being treated for a medical condition and is not quite yet available. This would be indicated under the description of the dog.
Adoption Pending: Since we do home checks for all of our dogs, this means the adoption is pending the results of the home check. This often requires time to schedule the home check for times that work best for both the family and us.
Adopted: Means the animal has been placed in a loving home, and is no longer available. This will be posted for several days.
IMPORTANT NOTE: A fenced yard must be in place prior to a dog being placed in a new home. This is very important for these dogs since they have been rescued as strays, and sometimes will run. They do not fear the streets since this is where they had to live prior to being rescued. We do not accept electric or invisible fences.
While at Animals in Need, every dog receives the following:
- Vaccinations
- Deworming
- Spay or Neuter surgery after 3 months of age.
- Treatment for any illness or injury
- Bath and flea dip
- Heartworm test, heartworm treatment if needed.
